File has a name and a known structure that can be accessed by the program.
General Characteristics File
- Persistence: "Surviving old" is the ability to be accessed from anywhere.
- Sharability: "Can be used with" by a variety of users and programs.
- Size: Has a size larger than the main memory.
Special Characteristics File
- Files can be created and deleted
- It has a unique name / different from the others
- Having a device parameter
- It has a user parameter and directories (On a multiuser system, each user memilkik own directory).
